Employment History

I formerly worked for Intel (May 2000-August 2001).  Due to the economy, I was recently laid off from Intel.

Intel projects have included:

Researcher.  Linux / Windows High-Availability system.  Work included designing and writing proof-of-concept applications in Linux and Windows to demonstrate application and NIC fail-over and other High-Availability concepts.

Linux Software Engineer, Glenwood Data Center Management System project.  Work included creating a PXE (Pre-boot eXecution Environment) server in C, with web front-end configuration tools, and designing the interaction between the OS installations and the management console.  I also managed the team that implemented the work, and was the liaison between our team, marketing, testing, and other groups within the project.

I worked previously for Panja (June 1998-May 2000).  I worked in the P3 Department (Panja Partner Program), interfacing custom partner hardware.  Roles include:

C++ Programmer, Landmark Home Automation System.  Written in C++ and MFC, running under Windows 9X and NT, Landmark is a large object-oriented system.  Work involved creating and reviewing functional specifications, scheduling tasks, C++ programming, testing, and debugging.

Firmware Programmer, Various Landmark Partner Products.  Written in Neuron C, a specialized language for echelon’s line of neuron chips.  Some of the larger firmware projects included the ITI Advent Home Navigator security panel, the Proceed AVP Audio/Video Preamplifier, and the Denon DCM-5000 Multi-Zone CD Changer.  Other custom firmware included B&W, Rotel, HAI, and Napco.

Partner Interfacing, Various partners.  During the process of specification, development, and testing of partner interfaces, I maintained the professional relationship between Panja and the partner companies’ engineering teams.

Prior to Panja, I worked for Keane, Inc. (Erudite Software and Consulting June 1992-1998).  Work included Consulting, Project Management, Software Design and Development, and custom Database Design for many varied platforms.  Some of these projects included:

Project Manager.  I designed and managed the implementation of several projects, for Vanstar, Ancestry, and 3M Health Information Systems, among others.  These were implemented in PowerBuilder, Delphi, and other 3GL’s.  This included relational database design and implementation.

(Keane projects, cont’d)

Consultant.  I did contract work for Illinois Power in Decatur, Illinois for 7 months.  Projects included analysis of IP’s Trouble Outage System, analysis and recommendations for upgrading IP’s Field Office Network, analysis of alternative business / resale uses for wireless technologies developed for and used in IP’s Automated Meter Reading project, and several other miscellaneous projects.

Project Lead / Lead Programmer. I lead several projects, for Novell, Inc., Vanstar, and Geneva Steel.  Geneva’s Mill Scheduling and Execution, written under HP-UX in C, handles the exchange of information between production control computers and the business system computers.  Plate Tracking tracks hot steel plates through the plate finishing mill.

Programmer, Several custom business systems.  These included systems for J.R. Simplot and other clients.  Included PowerBuilder windows, reports, input screens, and custom SQL queries.

Prior to working for Keane (Erudite Software), I developed SAT-LINK, an Application used by KBYU-TV to control remote satellite receivers. (Jan 1990 – Jan 1991).  During this time, I also worked at BYU as a Teaching assistant, and ran several undergraduate labs.
